Few writers of recent vintage have slipped into the literary mainstream with such graceful ease--and to such a virtually unanimous chorus of hosannas--as has the almost alarmingly precocious Allegra Goodman.
Barely 30 years old, Goodman has, during the past decade, compiled a track record of spectacular excellence. She is the recipient of a Whiting Writer's Award and, as of this writing, a National Book Award nomination. The publication of her first short story coincided with her matriculation at Harvard, and her first volume (collecting stories that had appeared in such prestigious venues as Commentary and the New Yorker) was issued on the day she graduated (magna cum laude, needless to say).
