The Norwegians shouted at Arnbjörn to hurry up, complaining that he was like all Icelanders, slow in everything. Meanwhile, Thorleifur stumbled over Arnbjörn's pot, spilling his porridge. In retaliation, Arnbjörn hit Thorleifur on the back of the neck with a hot ladle, burning him. Thorleifur immediately turned on Arnbjörn but kept his head. "We are the only Icelanders here," he said evenly. "These Norwegians shall not have the opportunity to laugh because we two are fighting and they have to drag us apart like dogs. But I shall remember this when we are in Iceland."
Arnbjörn kept silent, and no further incident occurred.
