Approaching the next century, Abraham Lincoln's party is faced with the unsettling task of finding "colored" faces to fill its ranks. Party demographers scratch their heads and rattle their brains in discomfort, while academics are rife with bewildering discontent.
Syndicated black intellectual Earl Ofari Hutchinson's answer to Republican misery: "The day that Republican leaders change the perception [of] ... a cozy, 'good ole' white guys club, they will find that many blacks would love nothing better than to join it."
Where are black Republicans?
The real question then is: Where are black Republicans?
Making the Republican Party the attractive sociopolitical alternative for African Americans is presently an endeavor fraught with the unattainable. Yet, is this an easily resolved issue of contrasting public-policy stances and opposing body politics?
