With Kim Dae-jung, the former president of the Republic of Korea and the Nobel Peace Prize winner succeeded by President Roh Moo-hyun of the same political party, a review of Kim's Sunshine Policy toward the Communist North Korea may be appropriate.

Kim Dae-jung, even though he had been persecuted under previous authoritarian governments, pardoned some of his prominent political opponents as soon as he was elected to the highest government position.
