Lessons from bush's visit
UGANDA--Hosting the president of the United States even for just four hours is not a simple task as the July 11 visit of George W. Bush showed. But there are many benefits to reap however brief that visit may have been.
Uganda has been lucky to host two sitting American presidents. Not many countries in Africa have had that chance. One of the direct benefits is the limelight that the international media put on Uganda before, during and even after Bush's visit. Many Ugandans may not know how difficult it is for poor developing countries to make it to the international media and for good reasons. It is normally the unending stories of disaster, war and hunger that attract the big media houses of Western industrialized nations to Africa.

...were caused by a racist white government, black Americans would be marching in the streets of Washington, demanding action. Instead, Mbeki's foolishness has drawn only muted criticism.
In his refusal to use the tools at hand to rescue his people, Mbeki's behavior is tantamount to genocide. It's time for black American activists to say so.
