In her 1980 best-selling book, Color Me Beautiful, Carole Jackson adapted Johannes Itten's 1920s theory of color to fashion. Itten had held that everyone belongs to one of four color groups: summer, fall, winter or spring, as dictated by their skin, natural hair and eye color.
