Electing an American president at the turn of the millennium is clearly no easy task. To assist us, the candidates for the Y2K election have formally declared their intentions with record-breaking alacrity. An additional precedent may have been set as well. It's the ever-increasing impact of money and spin. Over a year before this election, you may have witnessed (or chosen to ignore) a campaign's worth of whirls and twirls, including George W.'s cheerfully righteous pronouncement about slouching toward Gomorrah, underfunded Elizabeth's doleful retreat, and Al's alleged repositioning by reverting to a domicile state that is anything but his true political home.
