When Jim and AnnaMarie Jackson decided in the late 1960s to give away all that they owned, they had a lot to give. Working with his three brothers, Jim had made a fortune developing recreation and ski areas in the Colorado mountains.
"It seemed as if I was standing in a river and the money was just flowing to me," Jim says, "but I wasn't happy." He was so driven by the desire to accumulate wealth that he was working endless hours, leaving AnnaMarie to raise their two boys, Doug and Jay, by herself. Jim began to feel that he was missing out on what was most important. He saw his older brother go through three divorces and knew that was not what he wanted out of life.
