Teens Play Key Role in Sister-City Program to Restore War Zones |

Eleven years ago, genocide wreaked havoc in Kigali, Rwanda. Today Kigali's mayor finds hope and substantial support from the mayor of Rome. Similarly, the mayors of Kabul and Athens and those of Asmara, Eritrea, and Florence, Italy, are working together. The targets of these long-range collaborations are the teenagers and children in the city of each pair that has recently known the devastation of urban warfare.
"Our headquarters is in Rome, and European cities already have a strong tradition of international collaboration," says Megan Hallahan. "So it has been natural to start this program with European cities." Hallahan is head of the executive office of the Glocal Forum, which, with its We Are the Future (WAF) program, is spearheading the partnering of cities in the developed world ...
