"Spread spectrum is an absolute revolution in communication," says David Hughes, a retired U.S. Army colonel. "It will sweep the globe. It is unlicensed, wireless, low-cost, and do-it-yourself. People can get a radio antenna and hook up their homes for high-speed Internet service as well as telephone service. Of course, it is somewhat technical, and there needs to be some central coordination, but these are all doable at a fraction of the cost charged by the large telephone companies."
