For thirty-five years, artist James Houston has been one of the most prolific designers of ornamental glass sculptures for Steuben.

Born in Toronto in 1921, he was selected to study with Arthur Lismer--one of Canada's seminal "Group of Seven" artists--when he was 10. Other art training followed until he went away to serve in World War II. Houston now lives most of the year in Stonington, Connecticut, with his second wife, Alice, and travels with her extensively. At 76, he is still active as a designer for Steuben. Steuben art glass is sold in fine specialty stores worldwide and has its home store at the corner of Fifty-sixth Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City.
