At the checkout counter of your local supermarket you most likely, at best, give the colorful, mildly outrageous headlines of tabloids such as the National Enquirer an amused glance and get on with your groceries.
But what about in your home, where, comfortably settled in the evening before your television set, surfing along on your remote, you come upon tabloids live, as it were? Many of these daily shows--such as Hard Copy, Inside Edition, or Extra--are scheduled at or after 10:00 p.m., when the youngest members of your family are presumably tucked in for the night. It must be pointed out, however, that in many areas of the country Hard Copy and Inside Edition run at 6:30 or 7:00 in the evening, when it can be assumed that their content, often of a highly dubious nature, is co...

...--over the last decade since they were initiated.
In sum, despite the protestations of the producers of these shows that they are concerned with aspects of the news, the average viewer can only emerge from watching them with a sense of having been soiled. These programs do not represent television's finest hour by a long shot. In brief: entertainment--not much. Sleaze--quite a lot.
