Each year, thousands of craftspeople crisscross America in vans and mobile homes, selling their artworks at craft fairs both big and small. These "artists of the highway" pay their dues to bring their unique talents before the public, who not only reward them with on-the-spot purchases but provide them with valuable feedback about their work. The craft fair can be a dynamic, creative laboratory, where many a new idea is born in the exchange between an open-minded craft-stall operator and a potential customer with artistic opinions.
