Star Wars Trilogy, the first DVD edition of George Lucas' science-fiction adventure saga, looms as an irresistible gift for moviegoers who first formed an attachment to this mass-entertainment phenomenon when the prototype, Star Wars itself, arrived as a disarming delight on the weekend before Memorial Day in 1977.
One of the smartest showmen and pop-culture empire-builders of his generation, Lucas has artfully dawdled with the DVD unveiling of Stars Wars and its first generation of sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi, released theatrically in 1980 and 1983, respectively.
